Directed by Daina Reid, the series, which will air on ABC in two 90 minute episodes, stars British actor Oliver Jackson-Cohen as William Thornhill, a convict, and Sarah Snook as Sal, his free settler wife, who are transported to the new colony of New South Wales in 1805. Tim is amongst a stellar cast which also includes: Lachy Hulme, Genevieve Lemon and Trevor Jamieson.
The Secret River was shot in locations across Victoria and on The Hawkesbury River, north of Sydney, last year. If you’ve not seen it already, then take a peek at the trailer to fire up your anticipation:

Wow, it’s even better than what I imagined when reading the book. I can’t wait to see it. I have an element of apprehension seeing the gorgeous Tim as the terrible Smasher. I’ll have to watch it through spread fingers!

“The Secret River” was read by our bookgroup last year, it created a great discussion. I don’t think we see enough docos or drama type series etc. covering English/Australian history, so am really looking forward to this. I also loved how beautifully the image of the Hawkesbury was portrayed in the book and think the filming of the river itself will be wonderful.

This looks incredible — I’m really hoping that we (well, I) will be able to see it at some point in Canada! :)
