New York! Tim – Getting Drunk and Playing Ballads at Feinstein’s/54 Below tomorrow night!

Composer and lyricist of musicals Groundhog Day and Matilda, Tim is also a pianist, singer, comedian, actor, and – until 2 days ago – a director.
Here’s a message from him:
Hi everyone.
I’ve recently been working in 3 different continents, missing my kids a lot, sleeping too little and not playing piano enough.
And then a couple of days ago, the animated film to which I’ve dedicated the last 4 years of my life was shut down by the new studio execs.
The only way I know how to deal with my impotent fury and sadness is to subject members of the public to the spectacle of me getting drunk and playing ballads.
I suspect I won’t be very funny, I won’t be doing any stand-up, and I might act a bit bitter and spoilt. On the upside, the tickets are as cheap as I could make them, and I might be tempted to buy a round.
Come and drink with me, my friends, and we’ll see what happens.
Love, Tim

I’ll be with you in spirit. Such crushing news. Will be hoping the project finds its way back to life somehow. Somewhere. In the meantime screw those bastards…

I must say I am devastated and deeply sorry for Tim and all the crew that have devoted their talent and their lives to Larrikins.
If there is any comfort, Tim you are flying high, Matilda is entrenching itself as a masterwork, Groundhog Day already looks awesome, you are getting more and more exposure and your material just gets better and better.
Only time will reveal how this terrible decision fits into your life and body of work. Meanwhile you have immense talent, your work is gaining in popularity and influence and we look forward so much for what you will do.

Pretty! This was an incredibly wonderful article. Many thanks
for providing these details

Obvs I have no idea about how These Things Work, but I’m seconding Joanie’s comment above.
Can crowd funding help in this situation?
Hope the plunking and drunking helps xo

Heartbreaking news, truly. From what I saw, the film was beautiful, funny as hell and full of heart. What a loss! Best of luck in all future endeavors, and extremely sorry they won’t be for DWA.

If you get drunk and play ballads in Hobart again I’ll escort a drunk you to this nearby museum run by a rich bloke who you can beg to fund the movie… I’ll be in a mobility scooter. (I’m a white guy pissed off a film with an indigenous focus as opposed to tax dodging or jew hating white guy focus isn’t being made.)
Horse - Han on 8th of March 2017
Oh Tim. I’m so sorry that Larrikins got cancelled. It sounds like it would not only have been fantastic, but really significant; there’s more than enough blindingly white bullshit going on down under right now and we don’t see much of Indigenous Australia represented in Aussie art. Guess the execs are just maintaining the status quo. Jerks.
Sending love. x
Ryley Quinton on 7th of March 2017
can you view me the Larrikins art for my film set in the same place called Marsupials. Do you want to join the animated Ryley’s Pictures project?
Emily Egerton-Warburton on 7th of March 2017
What did your parents have to say about this?
John on 7th of March 2017
Seriously sucks. If you decide to crowdfund, let me know. Would gladly stump up some cash for this project.
Ryan Wallace on 7th of March 2017
I don’t know what else to do but to pray for you. Sorry for your loss.
Person on 7th of March 2017
Is there a valid reason for canceling it. Croods 2 obviously seemed like a money tactic, but it sounds like you had a lot of passion for this. Also, I was looking forward to it being the next good DreamWorks film, as the two coming out this year don’t look too great.
Person on 7th of March 2017
Can they uncancel it? I don’t believe in getting drunk, but I fear that if the same thing happened to me, I would probably have a heart attack, not be able to breath, or something like that. If Swords of Power can’t be completed, hopefully I won’t have to live in the world any longer (I don’t believe in suicide either though).

From one lucky piece of carbon to another lucky piece of carbon.
It’s sucks dead dogs dicks that this project got canned, however you have twice as long to make them suffer as your great aunts and uncles did :)

Tim,
I do not blame you for having a tanty, have a dozen. You moved your family here and invested four years of your life into that project. Perhaps to finally become a household name here in the US (which would thrill me to no end!)
You’re a strategist of the highest order, agreeing to work on Larrikins was made with a goal for you and your family to make it back to Oz.
Okay, deep breath: while it seems like right now, this may be the first carefully planned thing you’ve undertaken that hasn’t worked out, it just might-but in ways you don’t see yet. For instance: the studio head that left when NBC Universal bought Dreamworks might give you a ring six months from now to work on something else.
Someone you worked alongside on this project may bring up your name when they’re on their next project, or heck, maybe one of the friends you’ve made while living in LA may say “hey, this is a job that’s perfect for Tim.” We never know what we’ve done in the now affects our future. I suspect something beautiful will come out of the time on this project.
For now, have a tanty. I so wish I could hop a plane in the morning to be there to buy YOU a drink, because you surely can use a few.
I’m disappointed, this was going to be a fantastic way for others to see why I hopped on planes to see you in Atlanta and NYC. :)
My suggestion is to step up your plans to move the family to Oz, get Sarah and the kids surrounded by family. The kids will look at it as another great adventure, they’ll make new friends in new schools. Many of us are sad and upset for you. Hang in there.

Sorry to hear that! Damn, I’m not going to be in NYC until Sat! Wish you the best Tim.
Glenda on 6th of March 2017
Wow, Tim…..just…wow. I am almost speechless and literally sickened by this…this…devastating news. So I can only try to imagine how you’re feeling right now. It’s just wrong, is what it is. It’s 100,000% f**king bulls**t!!!! I hope the ballads, the drinks and your many adoring and supportive fans will take at least some of the sting away. Normally, I would want more than anything to be able to attend the show, but even if I could make it to New York, I don’t think I could enjoy it this time, knowing the raw, bitter diappointment and hurt you must be feeling inside. Sending hugs and hope for better days on the other side of tomorrow…. :~(

Oh no, we missed Matilda due to farm commitments but I promised my tribe I would take them to see Larrikins.
Arseholes, have a drink for me.
I am so sorry for all your wasted time.

Oh, Tim! That really sucks, I’m so sorry. Never mind, f*$% ’em if they can’t take a joke. Have a great time hanging out with sympathetic, adoring friends.

Not the news I wanted to wake up to at all! My maggots and I were looking forward to Larrikins, but that’s nothing compared to having four years of creative effort wasted! ?I’m so sorry for you, the team, and your family. Time to come home.
Kelly on 5th of March 2017

Joanie on 5th of March 2017
I’d definitely start up a crowd funding campaign if you still have the rights to the property.
Get the studio to waive rights ASAP!
In the meantime, get sloshed and sing through the pain.
Jenny Storey on 5th of March 2017
I feel for you after dragging Sarah and the children out there. Come to London and your admirer will hug you better. It could have a plus side, you could get the family to Sydney quick give Vi a chance to make a few friends before the move to senior education. Sending hugs. XXXXXXXXX
Suzanne Reardon-Mulhall on 5th of March 2017
Well damn! If not for having class tomorrow night (I’ve missed enough with a holiday), I would fly up there and buy YOU a drink.
That royally sucks, you are allowed to rant.
Helen Leigh on 5th of March 2017
