Tim has won the prestigious 2019 Helpmann Award for Best Australian Contemporary Concert for BACK.
He was unable to attend the ceremony because he’s on a family holiday in Western Australia so he sent his thanks via this video:
This is Tim’s fifth Helpmann Award having previously won:
2016 – Best Original Score in a Musical for his music and lyrics for Matilda
2012 – Best Comedy Performer for Tim Minchin vs The Orchestras Round II
2011 – Best New Australian Work with Tim Minchin Vs Sydney Symphony
2009 – Best Comedy Performer for his show Ready For This?
The Helpmann Awards, established in 2001 by Live Performance Australia, were announced yesterday evening, at their 19th annual awards ceremony at the Arts Centre Melbourne. They recognise excellence in many areas of Australian live performance, including musical theatre, contemporary music, classical music, comedy, opera, theatre and dance.
