It’s going to be all change at the Cambridge Theatre as David Leonard takes over the role of the terrifying Miss Trunchbull, the wicked headmistress of Crunchem Hall, on 3rd July. He’ll be filling the big (bogus) bosom left behind by Bertie Carvel after his final show on the 1st July.

Annette McLaughlin is also joining the cast on 21st August as Matilda’s loud, brash mother, Mrs Wormwood, after Josie Walker’s last performance on the 19th August.

They’ll be joining new cast members Steve Furst and Haley Flaherty, who play Mr Wormwood and Miss Honey, and the two new Matildas, Isobelle Molloy and Jade Marner, who have taken over from Sophia Kiely and Kerry Ingram. Hayley Canham will also be joining the company as Matilda in August.

The show is currently booking up until 17th February 2013, and you can grab your tickets from the Matilda the Musical website.

There are also plans afoot to open a production on Broadway in early 2013 – more on that, when details are confirmed.

Just saw the show with wife and 2 children at The Cambridge the day before Easter and thought it one of the best shows I have ever seen. Can only imagine how Bertie did The Trunchbull, but how David Leonard could be bettered is difficult to see. Mind you, though I still think Jim Dale was perfect in Barnum on Broadway, Michael Crawford put a different spin on that role in London and was just as entertaining.
Thanks for a great family experience.
P.S. Oliver at 5 was only slightly scared in the best possible way and thoroughly enjoyed it all, even dancing in the aisles at one point.
Best wishes Tim,

Gareth

I Was wondering that who is going to play Miss Honey in the Broadway production, either Becky Gulsvig or Caissie Levy or Nikki Bohne?

This change of cast was for the West End production. There’s been no casting announcements for the Broadway production yet but we’ll let you know when there is!

I was in the process of buying tix for the Broadway run of MATILDA and I was so disappointed to learn that Bertie Carvel will NOT be playing Miss Trunchbull when the show arrives in the Spring!! How can this be? I have only heard his performance on the show’s CD and I think it is one of the most unique things to have ever been recorded. Does his Olivier win mean nothing? Bertie C’s Tranchbull has been hailed by every critic who saw the show? Can it REALLY be true that we will NOT see him play the role on Broadway? PLEASE LET US KNOW!

I saw Tim at the Hay Festival this year. He was awesome….. a true genius!!! Can’t wait to see him again. He is incredibly multi talented – singer, songwriter, pianist and a true ‘wordsmith’. As good live as on DVD.

Are there any plans to bring it to the North West of England?

When is the Original Broadway Cast announced?

Wow – can’t imagine anyone being as perfect as Bertie Carvel but David Leonard is an absolutely fantastic choice to replace him. He’s played the villain in the legendary York panto (the UK’s best panto by far!) for more than 25 years and he’s just brilliant. We’ve booked tickets for Saturday 30th June hoping to see Bertie Carvel one last time – but we’ll definitely be booking to see it again as soon as David Leonard starts!

Kerry Ingram was an amazing Matilda – shame to see her go!

Will there be a film version?

Jeremy on 1st of June 2012

Will you be coming to Sydney??

Really hoping David Leonard is as good as Bertie Carvell (ikewise the new Matildas) as I’m taking my daughter in July….Just an excuse to go again really.
