Carry You, written by Tim for UPRIGHT and released by Missy Higgins, has been nominated in the Song of the Year category at the 2021 APRA Music Awards.
The APRA Music Awards celebrate excellence in contemporary music, honouring songwriters and publishers who have achieved artistic excellence and outstanding success in their fields.
Tim: “I am very pleased indeed that Carry You (as sung by the great Missy Higgins) has been nominated for APRA AMCOS APRA Song of the Year. It’s up against songs by Tame Impala, Amy Shark, Midnight Oil & Dan Sultan, Guy Sebastian, so I’ve got feck-all chance of winning… but YAY! Really thrilled actually, cos it’s peer voted and all. And am also excited cos on the awards night, another Aussie artist (I don’t know who – it’s a secret) will play a version of it live!”
You’ll find the full list of nominees for the 2021 APRA Music Awards here.
The 2021 APRA Music Awards take place on Wednesday 28th April at the International Convention Centre Grand Ballroom at Darling Harbour in Sydney. You’ll be able to watch rolling highlights on the night via the APRA AMCOS YouTube channel.

2019 UK REVIEWS FOR BACK “Even when you think you know what’s coming, Minchin retains a remarkable knack for staying ahead,
with verbal shimmies and tonal feints” ***** The i paper “A triumphant comeback, a three-hour spectacular” The Guardian “Spectacular […] A rare example of a long-awaited return that has been worth the long-await” **** The Times “More music gig than stand-up set. Except that rock lyrics are never, ever this funny” **** Evening Standard
“Roof raising return” **** The Sunday Telegraph
Tim is returning to Adelaide on Saturday 12th June 2021, bringing BACK back for an encore as a part of the Adelaide Cabaret Festival.
Tickets on sale Wednesday 24th February at 12pm (AEDT) here.
UPDATE: Due to demand a second date has been added – Sunday 13th June – tickets on sale now.
Tim: “I love Adelaide, and I can’t wait to bring “BACK” back for another spin. I first played the Adelaide Cabaret Festival in 2004 – at the late-night slot in the foyer of Festival Theatre. Since then, Adelaide has been home to so many huge moments for me: comedy shows in tents, musicals in arenas, filming Upright, orchestra shows and festival openings… I always adore my time there.”
Tim: “This is exciting. I have two songs on the shortlist for APRA AMCOS Song Of the Year. There are many excellent songs on the list, including a statistically unlikely number of West Aussies, which is nice, if you’re into parochialism, which I am, rarely. This is the award that Paul Kelly won a few years ago for “Firewood and Candles”, which my band and I performed at the awards dinner. Last time I was nominated was for Come Home (Cardinal Pell), which Kate Miller-Heidke performed when it ended up in the top 5.
So there.”
The APRA Music Awards celebrate excellence in contemporary music, honouring songwriters and publishers who have achieved artistic excellence and outstanding success in their fields.
The Song Of The Year shortlist will be cut down to five final nominees in March, before the 2021 APRA Music Awards take place on Wednesday 28th April at the International Convention Centre Grand Ballroom at Darling Harbour in Sydney.
The segment will be posted online after it airs on CBS.com and their social channels, with some territory restrictions.
UPDATE: 16/01/21
At the time of this update the YouTube videos (all embedded below) are not available in Australia but the three performances and the interview are viewable on the CBS website here:
Tim’ll be performing a brand new live version of one of the songs from his new album Apart Together on The Late Late Show with James Corden TONIGHT – Tuesday 5th January. There will be a brief interview too.
The other guest on the show is actor James Marsden.
As is the case every year, every dollar that White Wine in the Sun makes between Nov 1 and Jan 31 will go to Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect)! Go buy it! Even if you already own it!

For the curious… here is what was going on behind the scenes of our one-shot Absence vid shoot.
The keen-eyed will notice it’s not the actual take we used. We did a bunch, and this – the last shot of the day – came up clearest on the God Go-Pro. Sorry for the washed-out footage: I pumped up the exposure so you could see more of what was going on. : )
The difference between this glorious organised chaos and the final music video is testament to director Ben Lucas’s brilliant vision, and to the talent of the camera department, and to the beautiful lighting and set design, and to the organisational skills of our awesome producers, and to the many stage management crew who gave their time.
Plus good gear, and a very clever editor, and a lovely grade. : )
Here are the credits again, in case you didn’t see them under the original vid. I am very lucky that, despite limited time and budget, such incredible people came on board. Legends, all.
Special thanks to Luke Cowling, who convinced a bunch of his WAAPA Stage Management students to come and help us out, and also took captured this footage. (Luke is the guy in the black cap wrangling the fairy lights for the orchestra reveal.)
UPRIGHT won Best Comedy Series at the 2020 AACTA Awards this evening, with Tim winning Best Comedy Performer for his role in the series.
The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) held the ceremony this evening in Sydney. See the AACTAs website for the full list of winners and nominees.
Highlights from the ceremony will be broadcast on Channel Seven on Wednesday at 8.30pm.
More information on the series and where you can watch it here.
More UPRIGHT details can be found here, including where you can stream it.
Further information about DVD and Digital availability in other territories will be added once known. At the moment we do not have any more confirmed release dates.
Tim will be opening Perth Festival in show-stopping style, 5th and 6th February 2021, live in beautiful Kings Park.
He’ll give a special performance of his, newly released, critically acclaimed album Apart Together with some of his favourite WA musicians, including the West Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO) conducted by Jessica Gethin.
Each song has been reimagined by a different world-class orchestrator for the occasion.
New Dates: Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st February 2021. The Festival will contact ticket-holders. perthfestival.com.au

Tim: “I’m hugely pleased and relieved that people are connecting to this motley collection of songs. The reaction to the Livestream, especially, was incredible – testament to the brilliant work of a huge team of people who dedicated themselves to the mission of trying to make something different and gentle and fun and sparkly and special.”
APART TOGETHER ALBUM
“This crisply observed and tenderly considered pop album subverts expectations… From gorgeous love songs to self-deprecation, the comedian’s first non-comic record comes as a pleasant surprise”
-The Independent ****
“Apart Together is a masterpiece… A pure joy to listen to.”
-The Irish News *****
“The album is a triumph”
-Musical Theatre Review ****
‘The Absence Of You’, the 5th and final single ahead of the release of Tim’s long awaited studio album Apart Together is out now.
Tim: “In this weird year, we’re more aware than ever that the absence of a loved one can, in a way, be as impactful as their presence. This is a song about that, I suppose. It’s also a frickin banger.”
